History & Milestones
Quality Marking Services (QMS) Limited is a FAMILY BUSINESS, founded in 2001 by Father and Son, Ralph Clark (Chief Executive) and Greg Clark (Managing Director). The Company focuses on SERVICE, INNOVATION, INVESTMENT and TRAINING and has seen tremendous growth year-on-year. As such, QMS is often regarded as the leader of innovation within the industry.
2016 - Now: The here and now
- £500,000 investment into innovative equipment including a bespoke build QMS HyperGrip™ installation truck and two purpose built road sweepers.
- QMS HyperLine™ ULTRA wins Road Marking Innovation of the Year 2016.
- QMS PT&E Cards (Personal Training and Emergency) awarded FINALIST for Health & Safety Initiative of the Year 2016.
- QMS HyperGrip™ reaches 100,000m2 installed since achieving BBA certification in 2015.
2010 - 2015: Delivering excellence
- QMS HyperGrip™ receives BBA HAPAS Type 1 approval for High Friction Surface Treatment.
- QMS LifeLine™ awarded FINALIST as part of the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards for Road Marking Project of the Year 2015.
- QMS EnviroBlast, an environmentally sustainable line marking removal system is revealed.
- QMS moves to a larger, more prominent depot on Heathfield Industrial Estate in Newton Abbot, Devon.
- QMS StreetPave is introduced, a brand new decorative surfacing system.
- QMS HyperLine™ is applied outside of the United Kingdom for the first time, securing a contract to lay 300,000 metres of metres of QMS HyperLine™ in the Republic of Ireland.
2005 – 2010: The future rewards those who press on
- QMS HyperLine™ is awarded Road Marking Product of the Year 2009 at the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards.
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety accreditations achieved.
- QMS RapidShield™ an instant UV curable internal line marking system arrives at QMS.
- New purpose-built truck mounted applicator is delivered for QMS HyperLine™ use.
- QMS HyperLine™ is registered as a Trademark.
2001 – 2005: Innovation in motion
- QMS achieves Investors in People standard.
- Prototype vehicle mounted Waterborne Acrylic Resin applicator is introduced.
- Test trials begin on the A30 and A38 in Devon for durability, performance and reflectivity of our Waterborne Acrylic Paint.
- QMS is accredited to the quality standard of BS EN ISO 9001 with SGS.
- Two purpose-built Thermoplastic Screed Trucks are designed and built to the exact standards required by Ralph and Greg with operative safety at the highest regard.

Our Management Team
Ralph Clark - Chief ExecutiveMore Info
Ralph, together with his son Greg, set up the business in 2001 utilising a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from over 45 years within the road marking industry. Having worked globally for some of the largest companies in the sector, Ralph has been at the forefront of significant changes as the industry has evolved. Less involved in the day-to-day business, Ralph retains a pivotal role as Chief Executive.
Greg started in the industry in 1990 as a general labourer and worked his way up to the position of Contracts Supervisor, before co-founding QMS in 2001 and taking on the role of Operations Director.
In January 2016, Greg adopted the position of Managing Director. Within this role Greg is responsible for the management and future innovations of the business. His shrewd eye for industry improvement has seen him at the forefront of developing new and innovative products and services and successfully bringing them to market.
Brendon joined QMS in 2010 and brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience to the company gained from over 40 years working within the construction industry.
Over the years, Brendon has been instrumental in helping QMS to establish an Integrated Manage ment System whilst working with both our clients and our supply chain to create a robust and enhanced Health & Safety culture throughout the company.
Esther joined QMS in November 2011 in an administrative role, progressing to Office Manager in April 2013.
In August 2018 Esther moved into the new position of Projects Manager, utilising her industry knowledge to deliver porojects successfully within the business. Esther works closely with the Site Managers to ensure that all projects are delivered to meet programme and client requirements ontime and within budget, to the satifaction of all clients.
Esther has lead the development and implementation of the bespoke in house database software and mobile application and continues to oversee that these systems meet current and future requirements.
With a rich and diverse background, Peter is an accountant with over 30 years’ experience gained in both industry and private practice.
Having joined QMS in 2013, Peter bears overall responsibility for managing the finances of the company and his commercial knowledge has made an invaluable contribution to the ongoing development of our accounting operations.
Dean joined QMS in 2015 as our Estimator and is responsible for the pricing of new enquiries received.
With a strong understanding of Road Marking disciplines gained from years working as both an Operative and Supervisor within the industry, Dean’s experience provides clients with valuable insights into the delivery of works at an operational level. He is able to impart professional advice to ensure that every project is quoted to ensure maximum durability and performance of materials across each individual site.
Helen joined the Company in April 2018 in the position of Business Development Manager. Helen brings with her a wealth of knowledge from within the industry and is responsible for the development of new business throughout the United Kingdom with the major decision makers.
Multi-linguistic, Helen enhances our supply chain development throughout Europe.
Shaun joined the Company in 2008 and progressed himself through various roles within the Company gaining knowledge and experience in all aspects of the business delivery. Shaun was involved with the early concept of our internal line marking system RapidShield and today manages the many teams involved with the delivery of our internal line marking operations.
Liam joined the Company in 2014 as an operative, progressing himself through the training and development programme offered within the Company to his current position of Site Manager. Liam has been involved in all aspects of the business delivery and today manages all of our external line marking operations including our award winning HyperLine system.
Victor joined the Company in 2016 and learnt all aspects of the surface treatment systems offered at QMS progressing his career throughout various positions as they became available. In his current position of Site Manager, Victor is responsible for the management and delivery of our safety surfaces and decorative surfaces including our BBA HAPAS Type 1 High Friction Surfacing System HyperGrip.
David joined the Company in 2004 and progressed himself through various roles within the Company gaining knowledge and experience in all aspects of the business delivery.
Today, he is responsible for the training and development of all staff from their first day induction and throughout the extensive training programme offered at QMS for progression and career development.
Dave holds his Assesors adcreditation enabling him to assesss NVQ's (National Vocational Awards) in addition to First Aid, Manual Handling,Banksman and Fire Awareness trainer status to enable all our in-house training to be recognised by offical bodies.
Natasha joined the Company in February 2017 in the role of IMS Administrator and has successfully steered QMS through our ISO Audit and Accreditation to the latest standards of ISO 9001 for Quality, ISO14001 for Environmental Management together with the latest standard of ISO 45001 for Health & Safety Management, in recognition of her achievements she was promoted to the position of IMS Manager in September 2017.
Jenni joined the Company in 2017 in the position of Receptionist / Administrator. After graduating from the Open University and developing her skills within the Company, Jenni was promoted to the position of Office Manager in August 2018 where she remains responsible for the day-to-day management of the office environment. Jenni is our Mental Health First Aider and is focussed on ensuring the work environment fits with the Well Being of all staff.

Health and Safety
Quality Marking Services has, from its very inception, ensured the company maintains an excellent Health & Safety regime. We are aware of the environment in which we work on a daily basis and the need to protect our employees from harm has always been of paramount importance.
Our employees have the right to expect a safe working environment. QMS goes to the utmost lengths to ensure employees' safety at all times.
We maintain a full Health and Safety system that is intrinsically entwined into the Company's day-to-day operations and is backed with the external support of Citation. Health & Safety is not viewed by our workforce as an add-on or something that gets in the way of carrying out their operations, it forms part of everything they do and is a natural sequence in performing their duties.
We are 100% CSCS compliant ensuring that all our employees carry CSCS cards appropriate to their individual skill level. We also rigorously vet our supply chain partners ensuring 100% CSCS compliance on all of our sites.
We are accredited to ISO 45001:2018 to further confirm our commitment towards the Health, Safety and Welfare of those whom we employ and are affected by our works.
We are registered to CHAS, SMAS, Construction Line and Safe-Contractor. All of our workforce attend regular Health & Safety Awareness sessions to further develop each individual's Health & Safety perception. Our Site Managers are SMSTS qualified and our Crew Supervisors qualified to SSSTS.
The word Quality forms part of our Company name and as such is an indicator to the philosophy on which the Company has been built.
Since our formation in 2001 we have been committed to a rigid training regime. All of our employees have either achieved or are working towards an NVQ level 2 or higher and are in possession of a valid CSCS card. All new operatives are given an extensive induction to the company and are trained and assessed to meet the exceptionally high demands of the Company.
We have regular material and product familiarisation courses to keep our employees up to date with the latest processes and constantly evolve our installation techniques to encompass and reflect the latest innovations in equipment and materials. Our works are carried out to the appropriate British and European Standards, as such we are accredited to Quality Standard ISO 9001 incorporating National Highways Sector Scheme 7 for Road Markings together with certification for High Friction Surfacing to BBA HAPAS Type 1 standard.
As part of our ISO 9001 Quality Standard we operate a rigid quality system which is independently audited by SGS to the required standard on an annual basis.
Quality Marking Services is constantly striving to become the UK's Best and Most Environmentally Friendly Road Marking Contractor.
This has been part of our core belief from the very inception of the company and has guided and directed every decision made in the development of the business. This has resulted in QMS in being regarded as one of the leaders in the roadmarking industry for the use of environmentally sustainable systems.
Our award winning QMS HyperLine™ system is testament to this fact. Achieving a staggering 80% saving on CO2 emissions this revolutionary product, is at the very forefront of environmentally friendly road marking systems.
Since the formation of the Company, we have used lead-free pigments in all of our materials, including thermoplastic. We have stopped using highly damaging, dangerous and corrosive Chlorinated Rubber paint and replaced it with environmentally friendly waterborne paints. We use recycled materials wherever possible and dispose of all our waste in an ethical manner.
Our commitment does not just extend to the materials that we use, but also our working practices and equipment we use. As plant and equipment comes up for renewal, impact on the environment is a prime consideration during the purchasing process.
To reinforce our commitment to the environment we are accredited to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.
We strongly believe that our work, our actions and those whom we employ should minimise the amount of damage to the environment, we will continue to employ this philosophy for the benefit of everyone.

Representing around 90% of all road marking organisations operating within the UK today, the RSMA provides a central platform for discussion on training and the improvement of safety standards throughout the industry, as well as promoting the collective interests of its members. The RSMA looks after the interests of the industry and its members. Working to raise standards and promote our industry and its products, it represents about 90% of the road marking industry, ranging in size and operating throughout the UK.
British Board of Agrément (BBA)
Established in 1966, the British Board of Agrément is an organisation committed to helping businesses to supply the Construction industry with products and systems of the highest quality. They have developed rigorous testing, inspection and certification services to ensure excellence throughout the industry.
Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA) Ltd
The RSTA is an organisation which acts as a focal point to the road surface maintenance industry and aims to raise awareness of the range of road surface treatments available in the market, promote workforce competence and to encourage industry wide product and process innovation.
National Highways Sector Schemes
A bespoke quality management system developed specifically for organisations working across the UK road network. Based on the ISO 9001 standards there are over 20 individual schemes that cover road surfacing and marking and traffic management through to landscaping and vehicle safety restraints.

The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is a learned society concerned specifically with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of land-based transport systems and infrastructure.

The Lighthouse Club
The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund is a construction related charity which gives financial help to the thousands of families plunged into financial crisis when they lose their breadwinner's income through illness, injury or death. The charity works to assess how best they can help the families of these construction workers, providing them with financial assistance until they can get back on their feet.
